Banned Book Lists

Are you looking for inspiration to begin reviewing books for us, but don’t know where to find them? If you haven’t experienced this issue with your local public library or school district, here are some lists to get you started:

Plattsmouth School District: In April of 2023, a school board member in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, demanded the removal of 52 titles from the high school (48) and middle school (4) libraries. This is part of the inspiration for Tsunami of Pornography, as many of us in the community decided to read the books this person wanted to ban.

Murray City School District, Utah: This is a 118-page Google Doc listing “Sexually Explicit, Obscene, or Objectionable Books in Murray City School District” that the compiler(s) challenged.

PEN America Index of School Book Bans – 2o22-2023: PEN America’s Index of School Book Bans provides a comprehensive list of books banned in the 2022-2023 school year.

Book banning (denying others access to freely available literature and educational materials) is the antithesis of freedom, and book banners are diametrically opposed to the principles of freedom and democracy, principles upon which the United States was founded. Let’s make sure people know that they will not succeed in the suppression of literary, artistic or educational materials in our communities.
